From November 21, 2025, Slovenia will officially launch a new immigration program - the Digital Nomad Visa, which will allow foreigners to live in the country for up to one year and work remotely for companies registered outside Slovenia.

This is the country's first specialized residence permit for remote workers and freelancers - and at the same time a new step towards creating an attractive ecosystem for talented professionals from all over the world.

Who can apply for a Digital Nomad Visa to Slovenia?

Citizens of non-EU/EEA countries who work remotely can apply for a one-year residence permit, provided that:

- They are employees of a company registered outside Slovenia;

- They work as freelancers or contractors for foreign clients;

- They are self-employed and provide services to foreign clients remotely.

Important: Applicants are not allowed to work in Slovenia or provide services to Slovenian companies or individuals.

Duration and possibility of renewal of the digital nomad visa

The digital nomad visa to Slovenia is valid for 12 months and is not renewable.

However, a re-application can be submitted 6 months after the expiry of the previous visa.

Financial requirements: minimum income

To obtain a visa, you must prove that you have a stable income sufficient to live in Slovenia. The following documents are accepted:

- contracts with an employer or client;

- bank statements;

- payment statements;

- other confirmation of monthly income.

Important! The minimum income is determined by government regulations and may change.

How to apply for a remote worker visa in Slovenia?

There are two ways to apply for a visa:

- Abroad – through the Slovenian consulate or embassy in your country.

- Inside the country – through the local administrative unit, if you are already in Slovenia legally.

In the second case, after submitting the documents, a temporary residence permit is issued, which is valid until the final decision is made.

Can I bring my family with me?

Yes. Family members of a digital nomad are entitled to apply for a residence permit for the same period (12 months).

However, like the main applicant, they are not entitled to work in Slovenia unless they work remotely for a foreign company.

What does the Slovenian remote worker visa not allow?

This program does not allow:

- to work in Slovenian companies;

- to carry out sales or business activities in Slovenia;

- to receive income from sources registered in Slovenia.

Violation of these rules may result in the cancellation of your visa or a ban on entering the country in the future.

Why is Slovenia a great choice for remote workers?

Slovenia is a safe and comfortable country with picturesque landscapes, an affordable cost of living, and high-quality infrastructure. It offers:

- a stable legal system;

- a convenient geographical location in the center of Europe;

- excellent conditions for short- and medium-term stays without the need for complicated bureaucratic procedures.

The launch of the digital nomad visa in Slovenia is a logical and progressive step for a country that seeks to attract a new wave of professionals regardless of their location.

With clear rules, transparent income requirements, and the ability to come with your family, Slovenia is confidently becoming a new magnet for digital nomads in Europe.

When planning a trip abroad, be sure to take care of a travel insurance policy that will protect you from unforeseen situations during your trip and compensate for unplanned expenses - for medical treatment, in case of lost luggage, flight cancellation, etc.
