Passport requirements for tourists in Egypt

To enter Egypt, you must have a passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival.

It is also important that it has at least one blank page for visa stamps.

Visa regulations for traveling to Egypt

Most foreign nationals require a visa to enter Egypt. There are several ways to obtain a visa, depending on your nationality:

- Visa-free entry to Egypt

Visa-free entry to Egypt includes: Bahrain, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Lebanon (entry only permitted at Borg El Arab Airport, Hurghada Airport or Sharm El Sheikh Airport if arriving by charter flight), Macau, Oman, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia (up to 14 days).

Important! Special conditions may apply, so be sure to check the requirements based on your personal circumstances.

- Visa on arrival

Citizens of over 100 countries, including the US, UK, Canada and Australia, can obtain a visa on arrival at major Egyptian airports for a fee of USD 25 (USD 60 for a multiple-entry visa).

The requirements for obtaining a permit are a valid passport, details of your trip to Egypt and confirmation of your return.

A visa on arrival allows a stay of up to 30 days.

It is worth noting that in 2025, Egypt is simplifying entry rules for foreign visitors, now you can apply for an electronic visa directly at the airport at self-service kiosks, a mobile application or an online platform.

The procedure takes only a few minutes. Just pay the visa fee - and your visa to Egypt is ready. We told you more in our previous article.

- Electronic visa (eVisa)

Travelers from over 70 countries have the opportunity to obtain an Egyptian visa online, known as an electronic visa, which offers a convenient and completely electronic application process.

The process of obtaining an electronic visa to Egypt is simple and convenient: you need to fill out an application and upload a certain package of documents:

- A recent passport-sized photo.

- Valid email address.

- Information about your residence and travel itinerary in Egypt, along with proof of this.

- Your business-related documents, in case of a business visa.

- Travel insurance.

You can pay the visa fee using a debit or credit card.

Most e-visas are issued within 4 business days. The validity period is also 30 days from the date of entry.

- Consular visa

If individuals are not eligible for an e-visa, including citizens of Kyrgyzstan, Morocco, the Philippines and Algeria, they must apply for an Egyptian visa through the embassy or consulate of that country. The process involves filling out a form, providing documents to prove the purpose of the trip, and paying a consular fee.

- Special conditions for entering Egypt

Please note that tourists planning to visit only the resorts of Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba for a period of up to 15 days can get a free stamp on arrival, but this option does not allow travel outside the specified resorts.

Customs regulations for entering Egypt

Customs regulations in Egypt are quite strict, so before traveling it is recommended to take some precautions regarding personal items that you can bring into or out of the country. When entering Egypt, you are allowed to bring:

- Up to 200 cigarettes, 25 cigars or 200 g of tobacco.

- Up to 2 liters of alcohol.

- Cash equivalent of up to $10,000 without mandatory declaration.

The Egyptian government has banned the importation of several items into the country. If you are found in possession of these items, they will be immediately confiscated and confiscated. These items include certain radios and satellite phones.

It is also prohibited to take antiques out of the country, especially those of historical or cultural value.

Medical requirements for travel to Egypt

There are no mandatory vaccinations for most travelers. However, if you are coming from areas where yellow fever is common, you will need to provide a certificate of vaccination.

Safety tips for Egypt

Major tourist destinations such as Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and the Red Sea resorts are considered safe to visit. However, it is recommended to avoid travel to North Sinai and the border areas with Libya and Sudan due to the increased risk.
