As part of the new course, the visa-free regime has been abolished for citizens of 33 countries, including the USA, Great Britain, Canada, Germany, France, Japan, Australia and others. Why did Namibia decide to revise its policy?
The main motivation for implementing the new rules was the lack of parity in travel conditions: citizens of the specified countries could visit Namibia without visas, while Namibians needed to obtain permits to enter these countries.
Thus, the country has introduced visa-free travel for representatives of these countries, the new policy seeks to:
- Establish equality in international exchange.
- Ensure reciprocal treatment of Namibian citizens abroad.
- Create a balanced visa system that works on the principle of “you to us – we to you”.
Introduction of the electronic visa system (e-Visa) in Namibia
Although Namibia has abolished visa-free entry, to facilitate the process of submitting documents to foreigners, a new electronic platform for obtaining visas was offered - e-Visa. It has been available since March 2025 and is already actively used.

The process of applying for an e-visa to Namibia is as simple as possible and looks like this:
Step 1 – Register an account on the e-Visa portal.
Step 2 – Fill out the online application form.
Step 3 – Upload a photo and copies of your passport.
Step 4 – Pay the appropriate fee.
Step 5 – Receive your visa by email.
Cost and validity of an e-visa in Namibia
Prices depend on the age and country of origin of the applicant:
- Adults (from 12 years old) – 1600 national dollars (82 euros / 88 US dollars), for African citizens – 1200 national dollars (62 euros / 66 US dollars).
- Children (6-11 years) – 800 national dollars (41 euros / 44 US dollars), for African citizens – 600 national dollars (31 euros / 33 US dollars).
- Children (under 6 years) – free.
Important! Cruise passengers arriving in Walvis Bay or Lüderitz pay a day visa of 300 NAD (17 USD / 16 EUR).
Permitted duration of stay on the basis of a Namibian visa
The visa is valid for 30 days, multiple entries are allowed.
Citizens of which countries need to obtain an electronic visa for Namibia?
From 1 April 2025, citizens of the following countries must obtain a visa before travelling to Namibia:
Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Belarus, Armenia, United Kingdom, Georgia, Denmark, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Kazakhstan, Canada, Kyrgyzstan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Moldova, Netherlands, Germany, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, USA, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Finland, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan.
Is it possible to obtain a visa upon arrival in Namibia?
Despite the new rules, for citizens of Nigeria, the Philippines, Uganda and other countries, a visa upon arrival is still available for passengers arriving through designated border crossings. However, authorities recommend applying online in advance to avoid queues and delays.

- Airports: Hosea Kutako (Windhoek), Walvis Bay.
- Ports: Lüderitz, Walvis Bay.
