Taiwan is moving to a fully digital arrival registration system for foreign nationals starting October 1, 2025. The new system will introduce the Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC), an online form that must be completed before entering the country. This is an important step towards modernizing immigration procedures and simplifying the entry process.

What is TWAC and who needs to fill it out?

The Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC) is a mandatory electronic arrival card that must be filled out by all foreigners entering Taiwan, including citizens of South Africa, Russia, Brazil, and Mexico.

The following are exempt from this requirement:

- Persons with temporary or permanent residence permits.

- Holders of diplomatic documents.

- Residents with appropriate identification.

The TWAC is required for tourists, business travelers, and anyone coming for a short visit.

How to fill out a digital arrival card in Taiwan?

The application must be submitted through the official immigration portal: twac.immigration.gov.tw

The site is available in English, Chinese, and also contains instructions in other popular languages of the region - Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, etc.

The form must be filled out 72 hours before departure to avoid delays.

What information should be indicated on the TWAC (Taiwan Arrival Card) form?

TWAC replaces the traditional paper card, so it includes standard information:

- passport details,

- flight or ship number,

- arrival date,

- address of stay in Taiwan,

- contact information,

- purpose of trip (tourism, business, etc.).

In case of changes in the route or address, the data can be updated before arrival.

Important! Up to 16 people can be registered on one form - convenient for families and tourist groups.

What happens after submitting a TWAC?

After completing the form, you will receive a confirmation letter and a QR code.

At passport control, the information is automatically read from the database.

If you did not have time to apply for a card before your arrival, it is not a problem: there are special kiosks at the airport, and the staff will help you fill out the form on the spot.

Why is it important?

TWAC is not just about convenience. Taiwan aims to: reduce paperwork, strengthen security controls and optimize border services.

This is part of a wider trend in Asia: Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia have already implemented digital arrival formats.

Tips for travelers planning a trip to Taiwan

- Fill out the TWAC up to 72 hours before departure.

- Save the confirmation with the QR code on your phone or print it out.

- Have internet access at the airport – just in case.

- Use the group form if you are not traveling alone.

- Don't ignore this step - you won't be able to pass immigration control without a TWAC.

Implementing TWAC in Taiwan is positive news for tourists, as the procedure for arriving in Taiwan becomes simpler, more modern and faster. Thanks to the digital form, travelers save time and the state saves resources. Prepare in advance, and your trip to Taiwan will begin without unnecessary difficulties.

When planning a trip abroad, be sure to take care of a travel insurance policy that will protect you from unforeseen situations during your trip and compensate for unplanned expenses - for medical treatment, in case of lost luggage, flight cancellation, etc.
