Israel allows limited flights out of the country: what is known?

Israel resumes flights with a limit of 50 passengers. Find out who can fly, ticket prices, airport rules and other relevant information
After a nearly two-week ban, Israel is gradually resuming flights with a limit of 50 passengers per board. The new rules come amid military action with Iran and strict security measures at Ben Gurion Airport. Read everything we currently know about air travel in Israel in this article.
When planning a trip abroad, be sure to take care of a travel insurance policy that will protect you from unforeseen situations during your trip and compensate for unplanned expenses - for medical treatment, in case of lost luggage, flight cancellation, etc.
Resumption of flights in Israel after the ban
Starting Monday, June 24, Israel is allowing limited flights from the country. Each plane from Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv can carry no more than 50 passengers. This step is aimed at reducing security risks and avoiding overcrowding during the prolonged conflict with Iran.
Israel has completely closed its airspace since June 13 after the start of attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities. This has left about 40,000 tourists stranded. The country is now launching repatriation flights and gradually opening up the possibility of departure for foreigners and Israelis who have an urgent need to leave the territory.
Who can fly out of Israel?
Priority is given to those traveling for humanitarian, medical or nationally important purposes. Foreigners who have been stranded in Israel since the start of hostilities can also leave the country.
According to Transport Minister Miri Regev, 24 flights were operated on Monday, involving local airlines El Al, Israir and Arkia. Each of them had a maximum of 50 passengers on board.
Rules for passengers flying from Israel and new restrictions
- Flights operate exclusively from Terminal 3 of Ben Gurion Airport.
- Entry to the terminal is only allowed to passengers with tickets. Exceptions are accompanying persons with disabilities or children.
- Arrival by public transport - no later than 2 hours before departure.
- Private transport - for quick disembarkation only.
- Duty-free shops are closed, only cafes are open.
Ticket prices and available destinations
El Al has set fixed fares for flights from Israel:
- Larnaca - $99
- Athens - $149
- Rome, Paris, London - $299.
- Bangkok - $695
- New York, Los Angeles - $795
Passengers whose flights have been canceled since June 13 can rebook for free.
Arkia Airlines is planning 6 repatriation flights to Larnaca, Athens, Vienna, Rome and Barcelona.
New rules for return flights
Under the new policy, passengers departing from Israel can book a return ticket no earlier than 30 days after departure. This is done to avoid short-term trips and congestion on airspace.
Repatriation of Israelis from abroad
In parallel, Israel is carrying out a large-scale national operation to return citizens. According to authorities, about 84,000 Israelis still remain outside the country.
Starting Wednesday, up to two repatriation flights per hour are allowed, mainly during the day, as rocket attacks from Iran continue at night.
Israel is gradually opening its skies - but with restrictions designed to ensure passenger safety and minimize the burden on the airport. Flights with a limit of 50 passengers per board, a clear priority system and strict rules for staying in the terminal are all the new reality for travelers in the conflict zone.
